Starting in 2025, the Abstract Reasoning (AR) section will be removed from the test. Here's what you need to know about this change and how Medify can help you adapt your preparation.
What’s Changing?
AR section removed: From 2025 onwards, the UCAT will feature three cognitive subtests - Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, and Quantitative Reasoning - alongside the Situational Judgement Test.
Adjusted timings: The exam will remain just under 2 hours, but time has been reallocated to the remaining sections, with extra Decision Making questions added.some text
The instruction time has also been extended to 1min 30s for all sections, except QR, where it is 2 min.
Increased Decision Making (DM) focus: DM now has more questions (35, up from 29) and extended time (37 minutes, up from 31).
New scoring structure: The total score will now range from 900-2700 (300-900 per cognitive subtest), with SJT still graded in Bands 1-4.
Research shows that the AR section has lower predictive value for university performance and is more coachable compared to other sections. Removing it allows for a more efficient test structure while maintaining fairness and validity.
How This Affects You
More time per question: Both VR and QR have slight increases in time allocation, helping you refine your responses.
Increased DM intensity: With more questions and extended test period, you will need to build a greater endurance in the DM section compared to before.
Revised scoring structure: Although the overall score is now out of 2700, scaled scores for each subtest remain comparable to previous years.
Rest assured, Medify will guide you every step of the way.
